When last we saw Sailor Babo, he was lost in the woods. That made me sad all night so I’ve decided to throw together a happier Sailor Babo post this morning from leftover Seattle pictures. Here we go:
Sailor Babo wandered around the woods for two days until he eventually came upon a highway. Civilization at last! He stuck his little thumb up in the air and caught a ride back into town with a friendly group of traveling musicians.
“We need someone to replace our old percussionist,” they told Sailor Babo. “We recently lost him in a tragic washing machine accident. It said right on his tag ‘surface washing only’, but he didn’t pay any attention. Drummers!! Would you like to be his replacement and join our band? We think you’ve got the look we need.”
“I’m not sure,” said Sailor Babo. “What kind of music do you guys play? Who are your influences?” “We like Smashing Pumpkins,” they told him.
Sailor Babo got all bent out of shape when he heard that. “That’ll never do!” he exclaimed.
“Maybe we should play like Chuck Berry instead,” he suggested.
“Or Jimi Hendrix!!”
The band agreed to change their sound so Sailor Babo would join. The next step was to get him an instrument. Sailor Babo and the band’s manager went to the drum store. “Would you like to play the gong?” she asked. “No thank you,” said Babo politely.
“I think this kit is just what I need,” said Sailor Babo. Then they saw the price tag! “Maybe we should look for something a bit cheaper.”
“What about this nice blue one?” asked the manager. “No, it’s too tall.”
Just when it looked like all the percussion instruments were either too expensive or too big, Sailor Babo found a set of finger drums high up on the shelf. “These are perfect!” he announced. “And surprisingly cheap,” added the manager. They bought them!
And that’s the true and amazing story of how Sailor Babo escaped from the woods and helped form The Band of Babos! Rock on, Sailor Babo! Rock on!
Special thanks go out to The Drum Exchange in Seattle. They were nice enough to let me run rampant through their store and take pictures of Sailor Babo sitting on their merchandise. Thanks!
